La Conner Engagement | Part II
Natalie + James

We were headed back to Seattle from Natalie + James’s engagement photo session at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, when they suggested we all explore a small town on the Swinomish Channel.

As James navigated the quaint main street, I had a sense of déjà vu:

The Mom and Pop antique stores, the newspaper stand boasting the oldest weekly newspaper in the West..

It all came flooding back! On a vacation to the San Juan islands with my parents, we had stayed at a bed and breakfast in this tiny corner Washington.

There is one word that clearly describes La Conner, and it is serene. Utterly peaceful.

With Natalie + James, I was reminded of how romantic this quiet place can be.

Natalie + James love the vastness of God’s creation. Avid snowboarders, they feel at home in the openness of nature.

It didn’t matter that all of us had mud from the tulip fields caking our shoes…

This is their kind of place:

A dock. The elements. And each other.

We decided to explore the area around the docks and relax, camera in tow.

And we got caught up. Honestly, after years of not seeing these two, we felt like no time at all had passed.

My heart was just filled after talking with them…they are such quality people.

Who were made for each other.

We got to talking about their proposal story, and I was blown away:

Natalie was presenting at a national conference for Special Educator teachers in Peru, so James went down to visit her.

Together, they made the journey to Machu Picchu, where they trekked the ridges and experienced the breathtaking scenery.

And there, with the sky around them and the ruins below, James proposed.

And Natalie said, “Yes!”

When they returned fr0m their trip, James presented Natalie with an engagement ring that he designed himself!

Gold, diamonds, and their entwined birthstones (ruby and sapphire) make up this stunning ring.

It’s breathtaking.

What I love about hearing engagement stories is that they transport the couple back to that cherished “Yes” moment -

For Natalie + James, their imagination gets to travel to that climb on Machu Picchu -

and they can carry that with them wherever they go!

It’s special to see two people who not only have a long history together,

but who also have a vibrant, thriving relationship:

They are best friends,

Smitten with each other,

Partners,

And a place of rest for one another.

Is there anything better?

Natalie + James, we can’t wait to photograph your wedding!

We care a whole lot about both of you, and can’t tell you enough how wonderful it was to spend time with you in Washington.

To see you two so happy together is a gift…

because your love is truly beautiful.

Warmly,

daniel + megan
