Kai Nathaniel Lei

Jenny + Erik were expecting Kai to arrive today, Tuesday, January 11th…

But Kai was excited for his Birthday and arrived three weeks early, to everybody’s joy and surprise!

When I look at this little guy Kai, I wonder, “Will he have Jenny’s compassion? Will be have Erik’s witty humor? Or will he be someone completely unique, feeling secure and free to forge a new path?”

One thing is certain: Kai is loved.

So go for it, Kai! Dream big! There are so many of us that love you and want to help you grow…

Your Dad can teach you about rhythm, and your Mama can teach you about justice.

You can create with musicians (Justin, Peter), artists (Deborah, Joelle, Carissa), and craftsmen (Tiffany, Abby, Katie).

You can learn from educators (Gabe, Ivy, Jen, Justina), academics (Robin, Craig, Warren, Sam, Ben, Brittany, APU) and children (Diego, Emilio, Zach, Maddie, Sasha, Sydney).

You can serve by healing (Ari, Jan, Leah, Jeff, Heidi), helping people (Jordan, Beth), and meeting needs (Scott, Ben, Brett, Eric).

You can learn languages (Bethany, Naomi) and storytelling (Kristin, Sonia, Trisha, Pete).

You can understand business (Kurt, Len, Rob), marketing (Rafi), books (Elesha) and technology (Becca).

You can cultivate a garden (Jordan, Taylor, Meghan, and Jonathan), raise chickens (Nate, David) and cook (Melanie, Misty).

You can love our neighbors (Josh, Heather, John, Emily), embrace life (Caleb, Luke, Zeke, Micah), and have brothers and sisters (Selah, Fischer, Olive).

They say it takes a village – and that you have in such abundance that there are hundreds more who haven’t even been named!

Kai, you have the world in front of you, a community behind you, and two incredible parents with you.

You are free to be…whoever you are!

From one moment to the next.

Love,

daniel + megan

Beautiful work, both of you. You always do such an incredible job of capturing emotions. And what a wonderful perspective on all of the gifts we have in each other. May we continue to be a people who celebrates creativity and building each other up!
